The Teamsters organization was founded in 1903. They started of in the United States. John Callihan, George Innis, Albert Young, Sam Gompers, and Ed Turley were all one of the first presidents of the Teamsters. The teamsters formed in order to improve and help workers achieve the american dream. They fought for weekends, health insurance, and fair and equal treatment in work.
There are about 1.4 million members in this union today.
The mission of this union is to protect citizens from unfair treatment at work or under a contract signed. They make sure workers are getting paid what the employer told them they would be paid and works the hours they promised. They assure that one has a health insurance and a safe environment to work in. This union fights for its members and protects them against unfair treatment. They will fight in court for the members if they are being treated unfairly.

A current event happening right now is the school buses in charleston are safety hazard and no one is doing anything to better this. Bus drivers and parents are complaining about the unsafe environments children are having to go to. There are roaches mold and the buses break down consistently. Teamster is helping out the bus drivers and parents fight for better and safer transportation modes for their children.
